His versatility comes from his years of musical study in different genres with mentors in classical\, jazz\, Hawaiian\, Blues\, and rock. \nAbout Uncle Benny‘s Guest\, Kala‘e Camarillo\nKALA‘E’S FAMILY HISTORY \nBorn and raised in Kihei\, Maui\, Kala’e Camarillo comes from a family of music educators and entertainers. His grandfather\, George Camarillo\, started the first ʻukulele band in Hawai’i public schools at Waiakea Intermediate. His father\, Rama\, followed in his footsteps by becoming an ʻukulele teacher. His mother\, Cora\, is the sister of Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award Winner\, Lehua Kalima of Nā Leo Pilimehana. \nKALA‘E’S MUSICAL JOURNEY \nAt the age of seven\, Kala’e’s father taught him to play the ‘ukulele\, which led to him picking up other instruments like the guitar\, bass\, and piano. By the age of 12\, he began gigging weekly with his father at the Maui Coast Hotel. While a senior at Kamehameha Schools Maui\, Kala’e and his cousin\, Dane Lum Ho\, won the statewide competition\, “Band Champ\,” a Tom Moffat Production. Upon winning\, they were awarded the opportunity to open for two major acts: America and The Stylistics. \nIn 2009\, Kala’e moved to O’ahu to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa\, where he played on the men’s volleyball team and graduated with a degree in Elementary & Special Education. His education and passion for music led him to become a third-generation music teacher and professional musician. Both he and his brother\, Kamaka\, entered the local music scene together as the Camarillo Brothers. After they enjoyed some time performing together\, they began to focus on solo careers. \nIn 2017\, Kala’e released his debut album entitled “Working Man\,” which garnered him a nomination at the prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawai’i’s Version of the Grammy’s)\, recognizing him as one of Hawai’i’s “Most Promising Artists.” \nIn 2019\, he followed that up with his sophomore album\, “Feel at Home\,” produced by Dave Tucciarone\, Hawaii’s three-time Grammy Award Winning Producer. “Feel at Home” gave Kala’e his first Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Acoustic Album of the Year. \nIn 2021\, he released a song he wrote for his Mom\, “Be Like You\,” which garnered nominations for Song of The Year & Single of The Year. Kala’e’s third project\, a 6 track EP entitled “Child of These Islands\,” was engineered and produced by Grammy-nominated producer\, Imua Garza (Zeo Music). His career has led him across North America\, playing with club acts\, major label touring bands\, and as a solo performer. Often referred to now as “The Maui Rocker”\, he is well known to both locals and visitors there for his impassioned live performances. Born in Canada\, Thorne’s earlier career highlights included playing in The Henry Small Band with drummer Zak Starkey\, then later with Penta/WEA recording artist Raymond May\, who had a top 10 single\, touring the U.S.opening for Iggy Pop\, Aerosmith\, and the Georgia Satellites. Murray was later invited by producer Bob Rock to help build his home studio on Maui\, where he wound up providing backup vocals on a track for Our Lady Peace’s Gravity album while they were recording there. Thorne ended up making Maui his own home and became a well-known regular performer there\, both as a solo entertainer and from his long stint as the exuberant frontman for local show band\, Celtic Tigers. He released a solo album\, Tin Can Telephone\, for which he won an IAIRA award for his song “Butterfly Kisses”. Thorne also gained favorable attention from both the public and press for his repeat sold-out presentations of In The Flesh\, a live solo performance of Pink Floyd’s The Wall\, which featured a film that he created to play as a backdrop for the show. Tickets are $20 and available online at Aloha.ticketleap.com and table reservations can be made at OpenTable.com here. \nBarry Sless and Stephen Inglis\nAfter a mutual friend set them up with a duet gig at Peri’s in Fairfax\, CA in January 2024\, it was clear from the start that the duo had found the right ingredients for a special musical dish. Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar and the Pedal Steel share many deep roots\, but are seldom if ever heard together. \nTheir maiden voyage included traditional Hawaiian songs\, Inglis originals\, favorites from the Grateful Dead and Dylan songbooks and much more. Both Barry\, Stephen and everyone in attendance agreed that the music felt effortless\, captivating\, vibrant and full. It was clear that this would be the first of many shows to come. \nBarry has been making frequent trips to the islands over the past few decades as a member of The David Nelson Band and other acts\, which has kindled his love of Hawaiian music. He was a frequent member of Phil Lesh’s touring bands from the early 2000’s and currently tours as a member of Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros\, Moonalice\, and continues in the 30th year of David Nelson Band. \nBorn and raisedin Honolulu\, Stephen plays Grammy-nominated Hawaiian slack key and is equally at home playing improv-rock on the electric guitar. He is the 2021 recipient of the Ki Hōʻalu Legacy Award (Honoring those who perpetuate the art if Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar) giving him his third nod at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards; Hawaiʻiʻs highest musical honor. One of those is for the duet album with the legendary Dennis Kamakahi; Waimaka Helelei\, whic is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington\, DC. Barely out of his teens\, Stephen formed a group with legendary Grateful Dead drummer\, Bill Kreutzmann. \nHattie Craven & Alex Jordan\nA collaborative duo to be reckoned with\, Hattie Craven & Alex Jordan bring high energy musicality and a collection of original tunes and twisted covers with an stage presence. A brief meeting at a popular music festival in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada lead to a chance reunion years later where\, as society began to emerge from the pandemic\, the two artists connected over a love of harmony singing. \nThe daughter of legendary musician and personality Joe Craven\, Hattie has been steeped in Americana her whole life\, eventually finding a unique approach to the banjo ukulele and learning the guitar\, using both as a vehicle for her songwriting and grooving performances to compliment her remarkable and powerful voice. In addition to frequent appearances with her father\, Hattie leads “Hattie & and the Moonhowlers” who frequent the Central Valley and festival circuit in California. \nJordan\, the son of a high school music teacher\, found himself working through the brass section in middle school and high school\, focusing on Jazz Trombone before learning guitar at 17.
