AG Presents and Mulligans On The Blue are excited to bring Oahuʻs electric Irish pub-rock band the Doolin Rakes to the Mulligans Music Box. Playing also this night is Mauiʻs own, The Mad Bagpiper, Roger Mckinley. You may have seen Roger at Fleetwoodʻs on Front Street over the years, and we are proud to welcome him to our St Paddyʻs weekend of festivities.
Doolin Rakes is an electric Irish pub-rock band from Honolulu, formed in the early 2000’s. No one remembers the exact date of that first performance, but all agree that it was for a besotted carpenter’s barefoot wedding. And all remember having so much fun that it was decided over post-performance refreshments that it made sense to keep at it.
In the 20 years since, Doolin Rakes has become one of Hawaii’s premier rock bands, Irish or otherwise. The Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-nominated band (Best Rock Album, Irishman in Paradise) became the headliner for the (pre-Covid) Murphy’s Saint Patrick’s Day Block Party for more than a decade, delighting 15-20,000 revelers each year with their high-energy sound. Doolin Rakes held court for 15 years at as the Saturday “house band” at O’Toole’s Irish Pub (now Black Shamrock Tavern) on Honolulu’s “Irish Corner” and has performed more than 2500 gigs and concerts at venues all over Oahu (as well as a weeklong residency at RiRa Irish Pub in the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas).
Guitarist Jamie Winpenny, bassist Geoffrey Red, drummer (and tin-whistler) Steven Howells, and the incomparable fiddle player Lisa Gomes share many decades of professional performance experience between them. Doolin Rakes bring their irresistible enthusiasm and unique approach to traditional and original Irish-inspired music to the stage every time they play. It is always a celebration, the Irish way.
